A Very Ethical Christmas
So it’s the wind down to xmas…a few more xmas parties, a few more hangovers, a few more mid-afternoon micro sleeps and whammo Xmas in all of its glory is upon us! Amidst all of the madnesss and the gift buying is that niggling irritation (or giant slap in the face) that we are again forced to go out and buy presents that seem to bring half a second of joy, then its all over! Now, I’m pretty sure no one here would really prefer to buy a chainstore gift over a gift that helps the homeless..but we acknowledge that ethical gifts can be just a little bit harder to find. We are a little over a week til xmas but never fear, I have done some of the leg work for you. It is with great festive cheer I present a few of my favourite ethical gift ideas!
Little drummer boy drum roll…
1. A yearly subscription to The Big IssueThe Big Issue: $155 towards helping marginalised folk make a living.
2. Oxfam Unwrapped: Buy a goat… or a Buffalo!
3. Ethikl: A fabulous online store with a huge range of gift ideas for everyone!
4. Food Connect: Fill your bellies for the year and help out local farmers.
5. Incube8r: Visit the Valley store for some delightful handmade gifts and support local artisans!
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it will get you started on the hopefully slightly less painful xmas shopping spree. Its a bit more work to find these kinds of options but it’s worth the extra effort…as well as being able to be quite smug on christmas morning, you can also help to spread the festive love a little further.
A very merry christmas to you all.
